AnonymousGuestFor girls/women who practice Taiji Quan, a very important practical concern is to control the size of the dantian. Always looking like 5 months pregnant is no fun. Can you shed some lights on what factors impact the dantian size and what can be done to control the size? Even if that means losing some power, it is OK, of course, it would be better if both can be achieved: gaining decent amount of power and maintaining a dantian with a reasonable size.

AnonymousGuestI’ve never thought of the dantian as having a physical size.
Is this really the case?December 9, 2012 at 2:11 am #132894
AnonymousGuestOK, belly size:-).

AnonymousGuestHello there, I realise you have had your answer directly, so whatever I say is sort of second rate, but thought I would pick up the thread, as this question interests me also.
I have a very practical exercise to suggest: try to find as many photographs of yourself as a young child – two or three perhaps – any age really – from your family albums.
Observe carefully the size of the diaphragm and also the belly. Also note the muscular tone and elasticity of the lower abdominal muscles. If you have a young child, or know anyone with a young child, then follow up with direct observation.
After all this, remembering that the dantien is an energetic centre, you will have the answers.
Kind regards
Guy
