Hi everyone. I have been curious about Dao De Jing and I Ching for a very long time and have always wanted to learn more about it. But I not only want to learn it, I want to also experience and live it. In another word, I know in my heart that in these two timeless classics are great profound wisdom that can help me live a very satisfying life.

However, every time I grabbed books on Dao De Jing and I Ching (in both Chinese and English), I become instantly disappointed before I even finished reading the first chapter. I have always attributed my disappointment to my laziness and lack of patience to sit through and read the entire book. But in the last two years that I have been meditating and practicing standing meditation of zhan zhuang, I begin to intuit that Dao De Jing and I Ching is not something that can be learned by studying it intellectually. It has to be experienced through meditation before the secrets of these two classics are revealed to me.

The point of writing all this is so that I can ask this question. For all advanced practitioners out there, which one of Master Bruce Fantzis’ books should I begin with to start learning about Dao De Jing and I Ching? Master Frantzis’ books on water method of dissolving seems to deal extensively with the teachings of Dao De Jing. In fact, I have just ordered a copy of the three books on water method authored by Master Frantzis and am waiting for its delivery now. However, is it safe for me to practice the water method of meditation on my own? Should I begin with “Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body” to build a more solid foundation before moving onto the water method? If yes, is it safe to practice the exercises taught in the latter book on my own?

Please let me know what you think. Any advice and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read my posts.

    Hi CTK,

if you want to learn about the Tao Te Ching through meditation then sign up for Bruce’s Tao Te Ching course. You can see the details here http://www.energyarts.com/tao-te-ching-online-course. Each month Bruce talks about a verse and then teaches a meditation that opens up some of the content. The course is currently up to verse 38.

Bruce also has an online 16 month Taoist Meditation course – http://www.energyarts.com/taoist-meditation-circle-online-group – that creates a very solid foundation for further meditation work.

Both of these courses are excellent :-)

As far as I know Bruce hasn’t published anything about the I-Ching. He has done I-Ching meditations in the past.

The Energy Gates book is designed to be a workbook so that people can self-study however the most effective way to learn this material is to spend some time with a teacher if possible.

    Hope this helps

    Trevor
