In the hopes of helping others with the same predicament, and also for those who took a similar tack, I thought I’d share.
While I’ve been taking the Old Yang training circle, as well as dabbling in what I’ve learned from the books, it wasn’t until I took the Gods qigong training circle and encountered the video in which Bruce mentions that Liu would practice Hsing-I when, after having practiced Gods or tai chi, he internally felt like a wuss.

This was a big light-bulb for me.

Because, while I found tai chi and qigong helpful (also having taken several weeks of Paul Cavel’s 5 keys) I still felt like crap; it just wasn’t doing the trick. Don’t get me wrong, it was really doing something for me, but something was still markedly amiss.
I recently bought the Hsing-I and I Chuan dvd set, and I do believe I’m beginning to notice a difference. The only reason it isn’t as dramatic as I hoped for is due in part to the fact that my life has been one of pronounced wussiness. Not overly so, as Bruce said in the dvds, like someone afraid of their own shadow…but close enough.

My advice then to anyone who is practicing meditation, the softer/yin arts or even, as Bruce says in the dvd though I’m paraphrasing (and though my experience has been knowing it by the label of internally-yang), Bagua’s middle-path i.e. neither yin nor yang but in between, I would highly recommend and profoundly suggest you and persons like you to buy the Hsing-I and I Chuan dvd set.

Glad to hear you are liking the Hsing-I practice. Good stuff.
Just to clarify, Liu Heng Chieh used to practice Hsing-I every day. Then he would turn to Ba Gua or Tai Chi depending on his mood.

When in the course of the day, I sometimes get pretty exhausted. My job consists of standing outside the front entrance to a bar/restaurant for many hours with no break. Late in the day when things calm down, I find doing a few Shing Yi techniques helps to bring my energy level up to a more functional level. The mindset of Shing Yi was once described to me by Sifu Kenny Gong as “Careful”. I interpret this as a fighter would, as being mindful and ready for interaction from any direction.
There appears to be a slight misunderstanding in the Western interpretation of the Tai Chi mindset. In its martial aspect there is an extremely focused, alert and active involvement of the mind and spirit, and not the self hypnotic attitude many people believe is the way to practice. Attention turned inward can be every bit as active and energetic as the situational awareness of a warrior. When I practice Tai Chi I usually feel very calm and clear headed, and pretty wired.
Of course, as always, this just one man’s opinion.
    Thank You

Yes indeed, to boot up the hard drive I think I remember Bruce saying, however, Bruce also said Liu would do it when after some practice if it left him feeling, what we in the west would call, wussy.
Strangely enough I feel people being more aggressive with me when I practice hsing I so I’ve been taking a sabbatical. Maybe I’m the one who gets more aggressive and they just respond to it, but, I can do without it, either way.

cheers all… just to add something I found (in my exper) related to Cody’s comment from above -copied below here:

I found that working on the feeling of attn (both “internally” looking out through, as well as the feeling ‘externally’ how I fill up the space where I am- physically ~energetically.. the crudest aspects of Presence).. anyway- working on that feeling of how I am “attentioning”.. and soften.. dissolve it (Tension, any contraction, & any feeling of Strength….) -I find that it is easy to create all 3 of those, but espec a feeling of strength of the gaze, as well as the ‘vibe’ one is giving off.. vs just as Intense (not muted) but just there.. not acting-upon ..
ie the practice can create the sort of ‘vibe’ that demand attn from others- physically-CNS and subliminally (trigger tension in).. etc.

longer to write than I thought- anyway- hope that makes sense, it took my system a bit to work out how and figure out how my perspective needed to shfit.. but wasn’t what I expected (Opened many new possibilities beyond- let alone didn’t create that affect)..

    …..
and traditionally security-workers, or even more so thugs that seek the intimidation, may have actually sought this aspect out, to develop this attribute… so these aspects may be written in the ‘code’ of these practices..

anyway- just a thought -luck all
