    I’ve been doing 3 part straight line walking for some time (and will be doing it more as I’m still struggling with balance) now and it’s not clear to me what’s the progression to circle walking. I mean is it

    3 part line walking -> 3 part circle walking -> 4 part line walking -> 4 part circle walking -> …

    or

    3 part line walking -> 4 part line walking (-> 2 part line walking?) -> 3 part circle walking -> 4 part circle walking

    in other words – do I wait with circle walking until I’ve mastered the 4/2 parts line walking?

    Hi rh,

    Just from my perspective, I’d go with the former process. Intermix your line walking and circle walking. Do some of both in each session.

    2,3,4 Part Walking are all just ways of making your mind and body connect while walking. In the long run you dump all of that and just Walk the Circle. Along the way you do a million different exercises to connect your mind to your feet, which is all that really matters.

    Think of it this way, you’ll be doing all of these stepping patterns off and on for the rest of your Ba Gua career, so there’s no hurry to perfect any of them. Any time you put it away for a while and return to it again you’ll find so many new insights.
