Home › Forums Archive › Tai Chi › pumping vs stretching
good morning,
is it possible, or is it just my imagination:
it seems to me:
wu is more pumping (inflation and deflation)
and
yang is more stretching (pushing)
wu seems to be more qigong like, whereas yang seems more martial like
any comments appreciated…
cheers,
daniel
Maybe pulsating is a better description…
The Old Yang Style can be considered a large frame set, movements are much more overt and longer in appearance, Wu Style is considered small frame same movements happening inside the body with tighter precision. Both use the similar internal components. It’s common for people to start with large frame, then move on to medium or small frame once more of the internal components are integrated into a practitioner’s body. Both are martial arts.
