AnonymousGuestHi, Bruce, first, thank you very much for answering my previous questions. I truly appreciate it.
I have watched your video answering the question on lower back problem. There are a few medical conditions that I would like to get your expert opinion as they appear to be different from the questions asked. The medical conditions are bone hyperplasia (for instance, in neck area), bone spur (for instance, in knees), herniated disc (for instance, lumbar disc herniation). My question is that if it is OK for people with those conditions doing Taiji within the 70% rule as you specified with focus on the areas with issues. If Taiji helps improve/heal the medical conditions, that would be great, I am just not sure if doing Taiji carries much risks for people with those medical conditions. I understand for major medical problems, doctor visits are required. I am more from an angle of managing chronic conditions. Thanks a lot!

AnonymousGuestHello Maria,
Without seeing you in person a teacher can not give you specific advice about medical conditions. However in general Tai Chi is an extremely beneficial practice for relieving and managing back pain and chronic conditions. Yes follow the 70% rule as a matter of course, trust your body, slight discomfort is fine but if practice is causing you pain back off and try applying a “40% percent rule”. Another way of saying this is, only do (practice) what your body can comfortably bear.Kind regards,
