    Hi,

I soon going to start teaching in Maine and I need to clarify how things work in the US.

Do you take out specific insurance for teaching Energy Arts courses or is something like Public Libility insurance enough? Or do you teach without any specific cover?

Do you get all of your students to sign a disclaimer (something like the one EA uses) before they attend a class?

Is there anything else I need to be aware of when setting up clases in America?

    Hi Trevor,

At Brookline Tai Chi, we don’t have people sign waivers and for a long time we purchased insurance through Yoga Journal. Tai Chi and qigong classes were covered under the “yoga” category. We’ve since switched companies and I don’t know if we have something more specific at this point. Our company has never required that we get any kind of waiver from students and our agents never suggested it for other reasons.

That said, some kind of waiver is an easy way to collect information from prospective students if you’re interested in tracking demographics beyond name and email.

Where in Maine will you be teaching?

    Hi Dan,

any suggestions of suitable insurance companies? Who do you use now?

I’ll probably be teaching in Portland and Kennebunkport. I’ll be finalizing the locations in January.

I am also interested in knowing of any national companies that offer good rates on liability like this, and what to ask for, specifically. I did check and it doesn’t appear to be covered under my massage therapy liability policy.

Grateful for ideas or discussion along these lines.

    Hi Joel,

I ended up getting insurance through these folks – https://www.namasta.com/

I got a discount by joining the American Tai Chi and Qigong Association – http://www.americantaichi.org/
