If I stand for any length of time I sometimes begin to vibrate, shake and bounce. It isn’t from fatigue and I can make it stop but it will gradually creep back again. Is this distraction manifesting itself do you think?

Hi, Ted. From what I understand, the shaking and vibrating usually comes from your energy running into blockages. When I started standing, I would get these symptoms periodically, but found they decreased over time. If you know any of the outer dissolving practice that Bruce teaches, it might be helpful to have a brief session apart from your meditation practice. Other possibilities would be to do more sitting if you find the shaking too distracting, or you can just keep standing to see if it subsides over time.

………..and one aspects of these blockage can be physical mis-alignment. If you are standing with slight mis-alignments, i.e., your postural alignments aren’t quite true, then this can trigger all sorts of responses, including shaking etc. Bruce’s ‘Opening the Energy Gates’ book provides a good start to sorting out your alignments – also simply having someone give feedback on your standing position/posture can help, even a non-expert can give helpful feedback on postural symmetry and obvious misalignments and whether or not you look relaxed and grounded – better still if you can get advice from an Energy Arts Instructor.

Shaking while standing is a well-known phenomena, I would say. In fact, it could be said that until you don’t start shaking your progress is shallow. Shaking means that your body is adjusting so it is usually a good sign, specially if it is not painful. After the session you may feel sore, that’s ok, but you should not feel any sharp pain, that would be a sign of incorrect body posture or of overdoing the standing. If you can, use you mind to soften the shaking, and let everything become smooth. That might help, but all in all shaking is a good sign of the body getting rid of tension.

Thank you Adrian. That gives me more confidence.
