AnonymousGuestHi
i just bought Relaxing into Your Being and am working on the first two exercises. I often always have allergies so that at least 3-5 days a week I cannot breath through my nose. any advise on this?

AnonymousGuestHowdy
Try focusing on the sensation of the stuffed-up nose and all the allergic sensations (sinus pressure, etc.). Try to focus on it so that your mind moves into it (the stuffed-up nose and other afflicted regions). And just keep at it using the 70% rule-of-effort. I used to have seasonal allergies that had me jumping from zyrtec to clartin and what-not; when I started meditating they kinda evaporated (and this was before I discovered Bruce)…sometimes I get the feeling that our body’s allergies are like a kid wanting attention
Hope this helpsOctober 23, 2014 at 3:22 pm #134611

AnonymousGuestRealized that was the problem after I posted my advice. I really don’t know, but I suppose you do what’s natural or what you can until you can do it as-per.
Though the Taoists do make a deal about breathing through the nose, I think it’s about feeling the breath, so just transpose the advice Bruce gives in the book for how that would be going through the mouth until your nose responds.
But, I’m no expert, but, if you’re breathing through your mouth anyway, it can’t hurtOctober 24, 2014 at 12:39 pm #134614

AnonymousGuestI have had a similar problem. I had nasal congestion from seasonal allergies. I find standing and dissolving, the first part of Energy Gates Qigung/Neigung works best for me. At first I tucked my chin a little to open my occiput and straighten my spine. Now that my spine is pretty straight during 15 minutes of standing my sinus open fully. I do it before going to bed and it keeps my sinuses open.
I also find dragon and tiger qigong is good too. But standing and dissolving works better for me. During the day when working I will do taoist breathing to keep my back softer. I find doing breathing exercises makes it easier to get my standing and dissolving going later on.
I also take allergy medicine when I feel inflammation or severe congestion. I went to an allergy specialist and an ENT specialist. Both gave me a little advice on good medicine for me but I found I had to really try medicines and figure it out myself. I take Clarityn daily during allergy season. If I get a cold I take Clarityn Afrin Sever Decongestant. For ear congestion I take low dose 30 mg pseudoephedrine (non-prescription behind counter. I find while doing qigong daily I only take medicine a few days a year, often when I am most stressed. When I travel I bring along medicine just in case.

AnonymousGuestI have a stuffy nose most of the time also, and my approach is to breathe through my mouth, while visualizing the breath going in and out of my nose. Visualize how it would feel with clear nasal passages. It’s not the easiest thing to do concurrently with breathing through the mouth, but it may have benefit.
