    I wasn’t sure where to post this, but hopefully those that are interested in this will see this here (and perhaps share any findings from). I wrote in the past here on this forum (a while back) about a four-category system:

    (brute-strength, vs skilled-athletics, those first two can blend;
    then External GungFu (requiring changes in the body to allow for greater elasticity, not just in compression, but in stretch, also fluid-hydraulics.. etc…
    –this is based upon the prior athletics.. thus control of one’s balance, awareness and proprioception/ coordination/ timing etc… a simple entry to this is plyometics.. but developed throughout the body, and then expand how that is interrelated…
    [I learned this within Shaolin type arts.. even the longfist that TaiChiChuan seems based upon.. this is presented on YouTube recently as internal.. and I only make distinct my use of the terms Internal-Martial arts, or an “Internal-system” can be based upon “External-Gungfu” vs…
    then Internal GungFu (requiring changes in the body to allow for an entirely different set of dynamics than any of the three above (as seen in the below testing framework).. but this is complicated as all four can be developed.. (even one with int’l gungfu has some ext’l gungfu, many systems rely upon such devel as part of their method… and skilled-athletics (integrating a sense of leverage and timing) amplifies brute-strength, (and any that works to purely-solely just lift super-heavy… will find themselves adapting not only those athletic-skills, leverage, timing, etc.. as well as utilizting and developing the compression-bounce, even a shocking transfer of weight-jolt –even if it is subconscious, trial&error to complete the lifts… (but different than having a method and system that explicitly builds the building-blocks, in seq.. etc..
    ………………….
    Testing Framework: Often having another person give solid contact to your arms that you create a solid-bracing via your arms, your torso-spine, through your legs to solid footing… that connect and solidify/link-up is something that would be changed in combative flow before you can press-into and solidity.. but to actually work with the “weight/mass”.. that can work, if done in not one-way, but a few various..

    (below is speaking about with the ‘toucher’ the person who is going to ‘be pushed’… the pusher should be doing what they do to exert power, perhaps “internal force” is they do, or perhaps weight-shifting… can they do the same method against each of the different states? )

    –there is a difference between exerting a push as a gradual-push.. that slowly builds up and moves them, vs a sudden jolt-shock… the later may seem more martial, but the most “martial” is developing a strong skill, which requires doing over and over (and receiving a shock-jolt is less likely a receiver will be willing to receive, thus why those in YouTube video leap away from the wave-push, vs just receive it and are, or aren’t, moved directly by it.

    -the other connects and presses, almost leaning onto your support (which you then change the force you are exerting, as you need already be pressing to support their weight-leaning).

    -the other is standing-self supporting yet gives a solid frame via their arms (unrealistic dummy-state, in regards to live-flow, but good testing, can you move them? and control their vector, not have them lost their balance?)

    – related but distinct would be “root and resist” if above is using one’s mass and inertia, but not speicfiically “fightting”.. this is contact and digin and muscularly counter with the “pusher” is

    -Now, have the other “noodle” as the term goes.. either touch with the quality of a wet blanket, heavy and yet no engagement of the bone-structure…. or even lighter, still not allow the bones (of your arms) to be connected to your frame, and make little changes so the toucher is touching, and feeling/listening to the pusher.. but “no more weight than a fly” (definitely less than 4ounces :)

    If you can only work against the first couple, and the last one can’t do the method (and thus demos often negate by “we’d just enter in, pressing through the guard.” rather than work through any contact-pt), then that is physical martial arts..
    Ext’l GungFu can often deal with each, but may be different mechanisms.. ie each of these would require them to do something different inside…
    while Int’l GungFu has the potential to do the same “thing” and respond to all

    (there are some other contact methods, but above 4, and whether a smooth-even push, or a sudden-jolt.. all respond to the same? to what degree does the method result in a loss of control, even for a moment, let alone a break in concentration? (like weight-shifting shock commits to momentum, let alone shocks the doer as well.. notice a break in attention/awareness/presence?)

    =============
    Not to say that a method that is what I term brute-strength&skilled-athletics isn’t powerful… likewise many see what I term “External GungFu” as being powerful, and they haven’t seen “internal gungfu” so claim there is no such thing… and yet a system that uses more internal dynamics (like the weight-drop as done in the higher-levels of GuidedChaos, ContactFlow, I’d call “external gungfu” required to do that technique, called an “internal method” (vs an interna method “based upon” Internal gungfu)>…

    ContactFlow is a good testing ground, as done in GuidedChaos (although that method seems popular to misinterpret), as the moment it takes to solidly lock onto a contact, already a change has been made, and whether one can bring their power to bear (called internal or whatever) becomes clear in such a drill- does it work or not? (and this is something that reveals itself over many sessions of subcon learning, thus need to find a partner(s), and how to do that is pleasant enough to learn and practice your “method” over&over…

    (that point about whether your lining-up/alignment and setup/release your power-mech is done “consciously” vs “subconsciously” ~like the righting-reflex of balance, you notice it happen, vs do… How you train determines which, its not a matter of do and do and do purposely-consciously intending and it becomes a subcon reaction (it becomes a habit-programme, but not the subcon directing it). – but that is a different issue.
    ============
    So I hope above might give a framework to consider and contrast.compare/contextualize how different methods can be tested,,,, and thus what “internal” power might mean (vs an internal-system, or an internal-martail-art.. which are names).. most of all, can you affect the other’s mass via a light contact (their arms, and or your arms) as well as a heavy-solid contact?
    (ie if they touch your ribs, your arms not involved, and their arms are really loose and light, if you push-shift into them, their arm just bends and moves… ?)
