I had what i would describe as a breakthrough yesterday. I practice a Bear style qigung from an Ume mountain lineage, and have for about six months.

About a week ago, I started practicing the Taoist Longevity Breathing Excercises in the Dragon and Tiger PDF. I took my time paying attention to the energy moving through the nasal cavity. on day one, i could not even feel energy going all the way to the back of my nose, and had the dull pains of energy movement in upper back, just behind the diaphragm. in four days, however, energy moved very rapidly through my nose, and in the following days, i felt energy speed down my lungs as well. until yesterday, when i felt the energy move through my lungs, and into the Lower Tantiem. this feels like a chi pool, or a chi bowl, built in to my abdomen. As I breathe, now, I can feel the energy move through my whole body, and back in to the Lower Tantiem, like a circle, and it just builds there.

The physical sensation of connecting with this energy left me somewhat elated, however, and in my enthusiasm today, i decided to share the experience.

However, I know that the way you think affects the way things happen in your body, so I’m not sure if my metaphor for describing the process (as a breakthrough) is an appropriate one. It may symbolize violence or tension that is less than appropriate. as a result, I’m really interested in any discussion (any discussion at all) of the movement of Chi, the Tantiem, or any stories anyone might want to share on this topic.

    Dave.

Thanks for posting your comment ,Dave.
Except for doing Iron Shirt that I learned from Mantak Chia and practiced in the mid-1980’s, I’ve never had much luck filling my Tan Tien as if it were a repository. Life has interviened in the last decade until now I have been doing D/T for three years and am enjoying learning Longevity Breathing. I did notice that in the Dragon/Tiger DVD that Bruce has recently advertized that Longevity Breathing is mentioned in its “Advanced” section. Your description of your experience suggests moving the breath is as important as moving the mind…a notion I am becoming more comfortable with.
Furthermore, once I began exploring Longevity Breathing I began to realize that it fits seamlessly inside the Marriage of Heaven & Earth chi gung that I do from Bruce’s 1990’s VHS tape .
From one Bear to Another, Thanks, Dana

If it lasts it is a breakthrough. Otherwise it is one of the many glimpses you get from time to time by new combinations.

By chance I checked this weekend the CD offered in this forum by download. As Tiger and Dragon is obviously working also the girdle channel or Daimai around the hips – youtube show in the very beginning some handrotations in this section not in the book and DVD – in connection with the dantien it is no wunder that it appeared in combination with advanced longvity breathing havin many stages at that point.

Though I profited very much of the old tape version I had not understood anything of the deeper content being to nervous and tensed. This reappeared again but disappeared on the new background created by this course.

The lesson for the lower dantien showed it unformed but with content of my fire practices like a rainy cloud hovering.

In the lessons for the etheric body and aura breathing with the lower dantian it appeared in a formed way in many still rather inactive connections upward and downwards and the surroundings.

I will consider it now for Dragon and Tiger having overheard it in the advanced section.Whereas Longvity breath inhales downwards Dragon and Tiger goes upwards one side the other side still expelling the cleansing downwards.

    Hi Dave

I know you posted this 4 years ago, its sounds great, hope you are still experiencing this and no doubt with continued practice things will have progressed well for you :)

I’ve only just started D & T but I’ve had a similar experience in times gone by through yoga breathing and relaxation techniques, I think once you experience something like this the mind and body never forgets it and so even just having the experience once its already imprinted in the bodies energy fields.

I have found meditation experiences of times gone by have this long lasting affect too, things that are experienced internally or mentally feel as real as the things we experience physically and emotionally.

May the qi always rise strong within you :)
