Hello, I’ve been a long time meditator in Vipassana, Zen and Christian traditions with an interest in Taosim but have found most internal methods to read like a surgical text and thus extremely inaccessible. I also have a background in martial arts (fire method?) based qigong and tai chi.
The water method seems different from the other esoteric Taoist paths I’ve researched. It’s not overly simplistic like the Buddhist/Zen traditions and not as insanely complex as the Hindu Tantric or medieval schools of Taoism.

My question is whether Relaxing Into Your Being and The Tao of Letting Go are enough to develop a practice, at least into the intermediate stages of dissolving, or would I have to look elseware for these methods? Thank you.

    Hi David,

I think the clearest description of Bruce’s Inner Dissolving technique is in his book on Sexual Meditation. Relaxing Into Your Being was one of the first books that Bruce ever wrote. Since then, he’s gotten a lot better at writing. The sexual meditation book is the most recent book that he’s written on Meditation. The illustrations in the book are also exceptional and can really help you understand the material, particularly if you’re trying to learn it for the first time.

Even if you have no interest in the sexual work, it’s the best meditation book that Bruce has put out.

Also, some of Bruce’s senior instructors teach meditation classes and workshops. If you can, I’d recommend checking them out as well.

    Hope this helps,
    Janak

Hello David, I fully support Janak’s comments above, although if you look at the TaoSexMed book it does have alot in it (not that to get any part you need absorb it all, just that many diferent aspects are covered)… not to contra-that but rather to complement.. The Relaxing into your Being book (along with the second volume: The Great Stillness).. have a great deal (even a page or two has enough to “chew on” for a while (when they were first published- I received each as they came out and went ‘over’ and ‘over’ each… unfolding more from :) but that was me)…

the Audio lead through of the Tao of Letting go (assuming you mean the audios (vs a text) is great in the step by step (both the Relaxing into your Being, as well as TaoSexMed, books have exercises embedded in them- that can be followed in the same step by step)… so just getting the overall context to grasp it augments the different “doings” to dive in and feel-immersion..

don’t think that one of the books (or audio) isn’t enough, as any would give a whole-unit to start.. even each one can seem like a lot at once.. (toe in the water and all that).. if it is for you (as it was ‘for me’)- I’d say the journey is worth it and of value.

I have his book and CD on the Tao of Letting Go. I’m also working on combining this meditation path with the method called: Focusing. It’s where you focus on a general “felt-sense” that enfolds unconscious materiel until it shifts and reveals its contents.
