It was mentioned [in] the videos in week 3 that the breathing patterns of the D&T form is covered in the book. Is the breathing covered in the on line course as well? Does breathing make a difference? I personally like to focus on my breathing and “let my body take over” when i do qigong exercises.

    Hi Steven,

I’ll let Bill or someone from EA answer if it will be covered in the course, though I did want to comment on the other parts of your post. Breathing does make a difference but like Bill said, don’t try to coordinate it with the movements yet. You want to hard-wire the movements into your body and build a relaxed awareness of what’s happening first. Eventually you’ll have it wired and do it without consciously thinking of what to do. Then you’ll focus on another piece to hard-wire that will take you deeper. How to breathe with the movements is one of those things. Right now, just make sure you’re breath is soft and even. It’s easy to want to rush ahead, especially if you have some experience already but you’ll get much more out of it if you take your time, separate and combine like Bill is teaching.

    Good luck,

    Dejota

    Hi,

We won’t be covering the breathing patterns in this course. My experience is that for most people trying to do the breathing patterns right from the start is more stressful than helpful. I agree with Dejota’s observations about “separate and then combine” and initially just trying to keep your breathing soft as you learn the movements. Also try not to hold your breath. If you find your breath naturally linking to the movements in some way, cool.

Perhaps some day we’ll do a follow-up online course about the breathing patterns and other refinements to the exercises. For now, if you want to learn them, just check out the book or the poster.

    Bill
