    Hello,

I am completely new to all of this. I just watched the intro videos. I *think* I have a basic understanding of dissolving–finding tense places/blockages “ice,”–then dissolving them to water/gas/space. I have listened to the “Letting Go” series already. My question is: is it ok to do this lying down? Should one sit? Stand? Is there some other beginning instruction about dissolving that I should understand before beginning?

    Thank you :)

Hi there- welcome and cheers for finding this sort of stuff.. The main importance (from my perspective) is putting the “mind” MORE “in” the body (whatever that means, but it changes how you feel, and how you sense/understand what you are.. not just intellectually,
but overtime.. so it will seem, ah- got it.. but as you do it, think of the neural-pathways being built and the remapping and re-wiring of your system (physically and other-sensations..

at first will be vague, but then is integrated and like food-eaten is digested and nourishes yourself.. “growing” -see post I just made about concepts in the intermed #8 video info).

so first if you stand- and sort of like “seating a pot” (letting the clay “root” on the potter’s wheel) one stands in a way that opens up the body, and shows you all the parts/ways you are shut-down/inward collapsed (or just numb- as sport -psych calls neuro-muscular amnesia)…
so stand gives greater access.. it will highlight the ways you ‘clutch” (so as your subcon resists, not so easy- if lay-down just disconnect and collapse).. but is good to “compare-contrast”..

(stand mostly,, but 70%.. easy to over-do as get used to.. be sure as you “practice” the effort-strain is the level of you wish to have at high-skill… if you are ok eventually being skilled but even then a sense of strain is involved.. vs as your skill devels it is more easy-effortless (ie writing with a pen, is your body/arm/head super-tense, or is it easy… whether you have the facility to write-easily or not.. 2 different hings)) then can lay down, or sit (a bit) to peer differently, and then return to stand again (little bits- dipping toe in cold-water over time.. the temptation of just step in.. but then shock….) alignments of lying-down practice (or sitting) are “not” just lie or sit.. (there are as many aligments and connections as standing… (if you want good results).

so first I’d ponder the info, and try a bit (stand and feel, or just tune-in throughout the day), and then ponder/review the materials.. (some parts will make more sense, and concepts that you forgot/didn’t connect at first, etc.)…
so seq: 1) being in body, 2) look/feel (not quite the same thing) see what is there.. downward (which is a training tiself.. to actually exper vs glace sort-of and mind says- I know that,, ya.. goes off in lala land 3. then you might try release and connect alignments.. (ie how adjust a bit so you can be more there and feel more), then 4. what does sinking mean? (its a bit tricky.. its a feeling, not a visual-3d space thing, but like the feeling in an elevator that drops the pit of your stomach.. then 5. What is dissovling…

(not freeze on one, but try and sample, but Id emphasize in that order– so that you feel grounded and clear in that development.. but the understanding of each will change over time. )

    -cheers

    Hi
Doing it lying down is perfectly okay.
Bruce has said that Taoists practice this sitting, standing, moving, lying down, and interacting with others.

……..try standing, sitting and lying down. Each offers different perspectives. As a beginner, the key thing is be kind to yourself and to work well within the bounds of your comfort zone, physically, mentally and emotionally.
