Hi All, this forum’s been quiet for a while. I just wondered how people are getting on. I’m working with the practice audio sessions and finding them quite a different experience compared to the ‘intellectual’ content in the ‘lecture’ elements. Listening to Bruce’s discussion of chapter content usually contrasts quite markedly with the more academic translations that I’ve been reading ‘in tandem’, and brings alive the ‘scholar-practitioner’ polarity. The links with his meditation material from elsewhere are helpful (scanning, organ [heart] awareness and dissolving etc.). Because my time is limited during the working week, I’ve just started putting the latest two audios together back to back to give a 20 minute daily practice session. This also means that I’m going to be ‘engaged’ with each chapter for a couple of months. I also find it invaluable to regularly revisit content from the Meditation Circle. That said, I realise that I also need to find time to ‘just sit’ (I usually find time for this at weekends and occasionally during the week), and I’m wondering about alternating between ‘audio practice’ and ‘just sitting’ on alternate days. I realise that all this sounds a bit prescriptive, but if I leave it to spontaneity I’m more likely to do an extra 20 minutes of qigong or tai chi rather than meditate because I find these much easier! I also try and make sure that at least some of my qigong and tai chi practice is in ‘meditation’ mode. How does all this chime with your practice?

Colin, I appreciate your reflections on our Tao Te Ching Meditations. I have been listening to each month’s practice sessions quite often, but not every time I do my seated meditations. I might not be spending enough time daily to get the results needed. I just reread Bruce’s introduction to Meditation on this site and saw his recommendation for an hour or two a day.

Are we all spending too much time with computing tasks, and getting too much stimulus from all our electronic devices?

It is easy for me to spend time checking email and keeping my daily appointments with people organized on line. I might consider adding that dimension and cutting back a little or keeping my time on line more efficient. Freeing me for more meditation time is a goal I will investigate.

Hi, Colin and Joan. Nice to see a post after the long quiet spell. I’ve been sitting every morning and for that i do the inner dissolving. i found the medittation circle a really good preparation for that and I feel like I’m getting a lot more out of inner dissolving than I did before.

i haven’t found a regular way to practice the Tao Te Ching meditations yet. I sometimes do some meditating on the train, listening to the practive sessions. That works to a degree, but the train is a little distracting. Sometimes I sit for a little before bed and that feels pretty good, so I think I’ll try to make that more consistent.

I do think that these meditations are very interesting and powerful, giving us a different but related set of techniques. There’s a lot to do…
