AnonymousGuestHello,
As a young dad, I’m starting to look at energy practices in a whole new light. I’d like to pass on to my kids some useful knowledge as soon as possible so that they can start living with healthy “Chi habits” early on.
So my questions are :
What Energy practices can be taught to children ?
Starting from what age ?I’m thinking especially of Longevity Breathing, Dragon and Tiger QG, the Chi Rev Workout, Energy Gates, TaiChi, and San-Ti:
-At what ages can those be safely practiced?
-At what ages can a child/teen get benefits from them ?
-Which (if any) does Bruce especially recommend for Kids/Teens ?All in all : how did the ancient Taoists do it ?
And finally : are there any big no-noes that parents should know of when introducing their children to Chi practices?

AnonymousGuestOh, and another question :
How to make it fun ?

AnonymousGuestI’m guessing you’ve got to figure this one out first and then the rest will fall into place!

AnonymousGuestThe easiest thing you can teach kids is how to make a chi ball in their hands. It’s simple and promotes interest.
Once you feel the magnetic repulsion you start to wonder what’s going on, what’s possible, and where to go from there. It was really awesome when I first got it back in school, even considering the fact that I found no practical use for it at the time.
NB I’m presuming you know what I’m talking about, but if not I will explain.

AnonymousGuestThanks, Cameron. Good idea.
I’ve heard the Chi Ball is something a lot of Chinese children learned to do.
It’s funny. When I initially learned to do it, I wouldn’t feel a repulsion. I deinitely felt the ball, but it had more attraction than repulsion.
It’s only later on, when I’d started understanding how to balance my chi, that I could also feel the repulsion and balance both. Now I feel it as putting as much Yang chi as Yin chi in my Chi ball, by balancing what’s in my hands and the rest of the body. After the Chi ball, I’m wondering that it might be a good idea to go on to the preliminary excercises of D&T (pushing and pulling Chi in the arms, with different hand/finger positions. That would be when they’re a bit older. Then continue with the movements from D&T that are in the Chi Rev Workout, before going on to teaching them the full D&T when they’re big enough to focus for a long time, so maybe in their pre-teens.
I think the names of the moves in D&T (“Dragon looks to the Horizon”, for example) can be a great way to get them intersted by firing up their imagination…September 23, 2011 at 9:29 pm #131551
AnonymousGuestHi Cameron
Is there any chance you could explain what this is and how to do it?

AnonymousGuestWell first of all I’m not 100% sure on what it is exactly, but I shall explain how to do it and you can work that part out.
Basically you hold your hands together like you’re holding a ball (as close as you can), but don’t let them touch. Make sure they’re relaxed, and then concentrate on filling up that area from the point in the middle outwards. Another way to do it is to think of the energy of your hands directly going towards each other. You don’t have to worry about meridians or your dantien because you’ll be able to get it happening without thinking of any of that.
Signs that you’re on the right track include tingling, warmth, and most interestingly magnetic repulsion/attraction. That’s where the “ball” part comes into it, because it actually feels like you’re holding a ball. It may take a bit to get the feeling but just play around with it and see what works for you.
What I haven’t figured out yet is what exactly it is. At this point I’m presuming that it’s something to do with filling the etheric field of my hands but that’s just a guess. At the moment I’m playing around with it so that I can expand outwards to that “etheric field” or whatever it is; in order to feel more of a connectedness in my body.

AnonymousGuestHi Cameron
Many thanks for the information. I can get the sensations you talk about and will carry on playing with the chi ball and see what happens.

AnonymousGuestHello Erwan,
I’m a newbie here and don’t really want to say something inaccurate. However, Bruce Frantzis gives instuction on making a chi ball in the DVD of “dragon and tiger chi kung” in the prelimenary exercises.
Peace, Lenny
Edit: Sorry, I reread post and realized you already knew that. I will be more careful next time.
