I had to chuckle the other morning as I followed Bruce’s first meditation of placing the mind into the feet as mine crunched a circle in the freshly fallen snow in a London park. “Feel the quality of the air around your feet…” Bruce’s voice soothed as I tried to maintain my 4 part walking twisting in and out and rooting my shifting weight down to the icy ground. It’s alright for you, I thought, over there in sunny California barefoot on a golden sandy beach. I pictured the glorious west coast weather, jealous as hell, as I slide around in my Blundstone boots, with my multiple layers of clothing, woolen hat, scarf and gloves.

Something that has really helped over the past few weeks is that of keeping the back of my knees open as I open and close from my hips when walking. No-one has ever mentioned this to me before and it really does help to ensure that my weight is sunk down to my feet – Thanks for that Bruce!

Well, the snow has gone, for now, and I have to say that I’m getting a real sense of something good out of listening to the walking meditations. Bruce’s voice is perfectly pitched and his words are afloat around me, close by but not intrusive, as I walk.
Yeah, I’m really enjoying them. They have helped me to both improve my concentration and extend the length of time I can walk without distraction, thanks again!

I was literally “mud” walking in a circle in the rain sodden clay mud in the park this morning and for the first time I really experienced my connection with the ground beneath me.

In addition, maybe as a result of this, I was able to just go with the flow and send all the hassle of remembering what my feet, hands, gaze and body were all simultaneously doing to the area around my tan tien and felt for the first time at ease with myself doing the circle walking meditation.

It was a great meditation. I felt part of my surroundings. It was the first time I had tried the meditation of working through the body from head to toe without the aid of Bruce’s voice and I don’t believe that I would have had such an experience without having spent the past 6 weeks or so continually doing the meditation listening to the CD.

I am pleased with my progress and feel privileged to be receiving these teachings in addition to the monthly Ba Gua class I attend in London. Thanks again.

I agree! I too sometimes get lost in the details, but we in the southeast US have had some terrible winter weather lately, and when i practice on the snow covered parking lot outside of my office i notice that i have no choice but to do everything correctly otherwise i’ll be on my back! And this situation really helps to find the proper technique, also helping keep things natural.
