I’m just starting training in Hsing I Chuan. Is it ok to do some type of tai chi practice meaning doing the classical Tai chi yang form while I’m doing Hsing I Chuan? Would this defeat the purpose of my Hsing I Chuan training(meaning hsing i chuan trains yang chi while tai chi chuan is yin chi). If I did tai chi chuan classical yang form after doing my five elements would this defeat the purpose of my hsing I chuan training because there would be two different types of chi being developed and therefore one would off set the other’s chi and it would be like you never trained in either one of them because you are training two different types of chi here and so therefore they would off set each other? Yes or No?

    Hi Paul,
Qi is avery malleable substance, and therefore will change according to the way you practice – your intent, physical stiffness or looseness, mental state, etc.
Your not canceling the effects of one style over the other, but rather enhancing your abilities in facilitating qi within and through you being.
From what I’ve learned, one thing that you want to be certain of is that TaiJi is TaiJi – Xing Yi is Xing Yi – and BaGua is BaGua – and that you train it that way. So shift your intent appropriately for each style.

    Happy Training,
    Steve

My friend there it’s no problem if you take taichi or Hsing-I-Chuan or other programs that work with Chi. Chi is just energy and work with every one even if you walk it work with your Chi. Don’t worry it will be fine either way it’s the same.
