    Hi:

I have recently watched the I Chuan DVD taught by Frantzis, and I have a question.

If I understand correctly, I am supposed to begin all my I Chuan practice by first leaving my arms on my sides, and I need to open up my arm pit areas a little bit to let the energy flow into my right and left chi channels.

Then, the key is to let the arm move up by letting the chi inside my body outward. In another word, where normally lift their arms with their muscle, in I Chuan, we move up our arms with the expansion of the chi. I am not exactly sure if this is what Frantzis’ was saying, but that’s how I understand it.

If I understood correctly, then my question is how exactly are we suppose to let the chi expand outward to effect the rising of our arms? I am not exactly sure how that could be done.

Or is it the case that my understanding is so flawed that my question is not even making sense to you experienced practitioners out there.

    Please let me know.

    Thank you

    Hello C T Kao,
Best wishes.. I think you state that well, and that is the ‘crux.’ .. the question is how long one can-will seek that, to work on that (all the little details Bruce gives works towards that, its not just one-little ah-got it),
as well as figure out what that implies.. over time changes, but most practitioner’s only can stay in that state of huh? for so long, until..
-so they shut down and say (as you may read in many forum/blog-posts, let alone YT videos ‘explaining’ int’l (?) MartialArts)

[ re: what poet John Keats referred to as Negative Capability… we want/need to either know, or not-know/it doesn’t matter.. it is, or it isn’t .. done.. to remain in that ‘flux’.. how long? the longer, the more arises and reveals.]

    — a crutch, not really it (as if one actually is open to the possibiility it might be -many won’t- then if see this crutch could go ah- that’s it done.. phew, the stress of that “what?” feeling is gone… but rather a step fwd- can then see further- beyond the Horizon)… that being, the fluids of the body.. (if you sort of compress your guts/abs/intestines and your hip/kwa/ upper thighs as if making a bit smaller, but “do so in a way” that you feel that fluid flow from there moving– and then guide it to your armpit-shoulders (ie starts X, and ends towrds Y.. inbetween? discover)
-this will require letting-go opening many other places, and may not make sense at first, and may compress and yet not feel fluid flow (as just stuck there). -see ref the WeightLifting tech “spider-lift” (different use, but a pointer).

but most of all a feeling of rising -a bit- sustain just a moment, and then descend.. each time a bit higher and further (at first may be slight movement and small, then bigger- as stay connected).. and also pause-hold longer than a moment. — to just push into position and hold.. well, that is what I referred to in another post written here (there were a bunch of post-comments about this in the past (searched older posts on this forum?)

-a bit further is a feeling of rising-expanding (at first from centre/dai mai, and then legs-knees.. then lower) — so that a magnetic feel, almost like being in water, and an underwater wave pulses through (or even in a pool-hottub where the jets can be felt blasting in… -first that also- rise, hold a moment/pause, then descend… (over time the hold-pause becomes the ‘position’)
-first ‘through the physical (areas in the torso arms, then more of it, then fills all of torso arms as flows through, rather than just parts of), then fills more of the sphere, like in water, or a wind.

etc. Of course there is the common perspective out there, lift your arms and hold them locked.. (and the actual development is the small muscles trained isometrically, top of shoulders, scapula, etc.. with relaxation, that elicits deeper fibers, over time… ) All what you are seeking. -I’m not saying that view isn’t valid, just different.

or in other words (and this is all my exper and opinion- to each their own and such.. the first context does have a different learning curve, espec to ‘use’.. but once developed something?)

    Just my two cents.

    — I wonder if Jess or Issac (or others out there- not to name many) that have done and taught I Chuan/SanTi might have views on this -luck all
