Don’t know if anyone else is doing this, but I picked up a small composition book to use as a “meditation journal.” I’m taking a few notes on Bruce’s instructions for that week’s practice as a reminder of what I should be focusing on.

Also think it will help me to keep track of when to move from one practice to the next. Think it might be useful to jot down notes on the day’s meditation session as well.

That’s a really good idea Kevin. A simple way of keeping track of instructions and experience. I shall give it a try.

I decided to keep a journel just to jot down a few notes. Also to keep track of what week I am on. Acutally it would not be a bad idea to write some of the instructions down. Good idea.

I’ve been keeping a training diary since 2006. It works great to motivate you to keep practicing (you create a commitment with the diary), and it’s a great reference too.

I’m just starting Week 2. I’ve been taking notes on instructions for the week and writing observations. Because I have a tendency to intellectualize, I try to listen to the week’s instructions before sitting each day as there’s a quality in Bruce’s voice that carries meaning for me that written words don’t provide.

I have that intellectualising habit too! Like the idea of keeping a journal but wondering if it will encourage the intellectual mind to dominate. I’d like to know how you are finding using the journal.

If nothing else, I like it for keeping track of what I am supposed to be doing from day to day and knowing when to move on to a new phase. It’s probably OK to intellectualize a little.

Hello, all. I’ve been keeping a journal for the last few months. I’ve wanted to for a long time but haven’t been able to work it into my schedule. I’ve found a way (during my train ride to work in the morning) and have found it very useful. Rather than an intellectual exercise, it helps me to identify and articulate things that come up in my practice. I’ve read the online journal of guitarist Robert Fripp for years. He takes about how journaling allows you to be reflective and live an “examined life,” like that great quote from Socrates, “The unexamined life is not worth living.”

    Anyway, I find it useful.

    best wishes,
    Matthew
