Taoist Energy Anatomy

Chi (qi) energy moves through specific pathways mapped by Taoist sages thousands of years ago. The energy anatomy diagrams show the chi flow through main right, left and central energy channels that are located deep in the body. Other important energy channels move in the body through meridians that have been charted by acupuncturists.

A detailed explanation of energy anatomy and how the flow of chi can be developed is found in Frantzis’ books: The Chi Revolution, The Power of Internal Martial Arts and Chi, Tai Chi: Health for Life, Relaxing Into Your Being and The Great Stillness.

Location of Main Energy (Qi) Channels

The main channels are located in the center of the body, midway between the skin in the front and back of the torso; and midway between the skin in the front and back of the arms, legs and head. These begin at birth and remain until death.

Acupuncture Meridians

The pathways of chi through the acupuncture meridians were created during fetal development. Most are located in the wei chi, a layer of chi located just underneath the skin in the subcutaneous tissue found between the skin and the muscles. Dragon and Tiger medical chi gung/qigong, part of Energy Arts core chi gung/qigong program, is based on the principles of acupuncture.
